Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy & Accelerated Resolution Therapy

EMDR and A.R.T. are both treatments for Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. They work by using eye movements to recall traumatic events  – which allows us to minimize the emotional distress of the memory.

What women who have had EMDR for birth trauma have said about the experience…

As reported in Cheryl Tanto Beck’s book “Traumatic Birth”.

  • “I do know that the EMDR took the sting out of the trauma. The power was knee-capped.”
  • “EMDR helped me reprocess my traumatic birth memories and feel more empowered. Although my memories are still present, they no longer have the devastating impact on me as they once did.”
  • “All in all, I did EMDR for about 6 months and it helped me tremendously. It’s not that my memories or feelings about them are gone. But they are less excruciating and they don’t haunt me on a daily basis.”
  • “I highly recommend EMDR to anyone suffering from PTSD. A competent EMDR therapist can not only help resolve your issues, but she can empower you to reshape your trauma.”
  • “I think EMDR definitely provides much faster and longer-lasting  relief from the anguish, depression, and continuously retraumatizing thoughts.”
  • “I also think it would have taken a VERY long time through traditional talk therapy to help me get to the same point that literally one or two EMDR sessions helped me to arrive at.”
  • “EMDR was absolutely the reason that I was able to get through my PTSD. When I was going to the cognitive therapist, I just found myself constantly retriggered through the questioning of my trauma, talking about my trauma, and never really resolving the pieces of my trauma that would send me into panic. EMDR and my EMDR therapist caused those triggers to dissolve through the act of rewiring those bits and pieces. Those “stuck” neural pathways that always seemed to cause panic.”
