In the news is a blog post that looks at a relevant news article that came up on social media. The article may be recent or may just be something stuck in the “reading list” section in my phone browser for who knows how long. It summarizes the article in my three take aways. If they pique your interest, give it a read.

“There’s a lot of uncertainty, so people don’t know what their birth is going to look like.”
Here are my 3 take aways:
1. Our world is uncertain right now and uncertainty impacts us all in different ways.
Food for thought…
- How are you impacted by uncertainty? Does it create more stress for you? How do you manage the uncertainty?
- How are the people around you coping with uncertainty?
Examples: researching, talking about it, feeling anxious, ignoring the news, etc.
2. There are fewer options for “normal” access to supports. Mom groups, bringing people to the hospital for delivery, using transit to get out and about, winter is coming which will limit outdoor visiting. We need support when we struggle.
Food for thought…
- In what ways do you notice the lack of support?
- Are there flexible ways you are adapting? Have you given yourself credit for your sweet coping skills?
Examples: finding online support, pushing through discomfort and finding ways to connect safely (like backyard visits), planning activities in your neighbourhood.
3. Research matters. I’m reminded about how many people commit their lives to growing a knowledge base for all of us. These unsung heroes help us chip away at the uncertainty in the world. I thank you.
Food for thought…
- What kind of ways do you get your information?
- What is the impact on your mood of the information you use?
- Are there ways to get information that you haven’t tried?
Examples: people you trust, forums, researched data, government websites, “reputable sources”, media, etc.
